• <P> Makes a new paragraph
• <br> Creates a line break for text, images, etc
• <center> Centers what is in the tag. This could be text, image, etc.
• <hr> This makes a horizontal rule or horizontal line.
• <nobr> Tells there to be no break
• <blockquote> allows you to insert a block quote into html
• <or> code to create a ordered list
• <ul> code to create an unordered list
• <li> code that tells the browser this is a list item
• &nbsp;    code that creates an area of space. Sometimes this code is needed to be repeated many times

• <B> Makes the text bold
• <I> Makes the text Italic
• <S> Strikes out the text
• <U>Underlines the text
• <Blink> Will blink the text. It is recommended not to use this feature because it is visual unappealing. 

Remember when suggesting text to use in html doesn’t always work on browsers. Sometimes when the computer runs different operating programs and internet browsers. Try to use basic fonts so that html is more likely to recognize it and always use the one you specified.

The basic command <Marquee> with the closing marquee </Marquee> creates a scrolling marquee.

<marquee>TEXT HERE</marquee>

There are several attributes that can be added to a scrolling marquee.

• Width
• Height
• Direction
• Behavior
• Scrolldelay
• Loop
• Background color

1. To determine the width and or height of the marquee <Marquee width=”200″ height=”50″>

2. Direction will determine which side your marquee will start from. <Marquee direction=”left”> or <marquee direction=”left”>

3. Behavior determines how the content will scroll. Each behavior command tells the marquee a different way to move across the page.

4. Scrolldelay tells the brower how fast the marquee text will move across the page. <marquee scrolldelay=”500″>

5. Loop determines how many times the marquee will move across

<marquee loop=”2″> or<marquee loop=”infinite”> or if you wish to loop a number of times and keep the text on the page after it has finished looping <marquee loop=”2″ behavior=”slide”>

6.  Background color makes a colored path for the marquee to travel on. Highlighting the text.

Example. At the top of your page is your title. In the case such as a FAQs page there can be a lot of information. You may want to provide links of all the questions at the top and the user be able to click down to the question they want instead of reading through the entire page. At the bottom of the page it might be easier to have a link button for the user to jump back to the top of the page.

First, for the place you are going to want the page to jump to, such as a place in the page below, you must name the line. For example we will name the Title of a page so that the bottom link can jump back to the top. You must close the a tag </a>

<a name=”top”>TITLE</a>

To name the Title area you need to put <a name=”anynameyouwant”>AREA OF PAGE</a>

On the bottom we will create the link that will jump to the top of the page. To create the link to move on the rest of the page you must put a #before the name of the area of the page named above in the a tag.

<a href=”#top”>Top of Page</a>

As long as the links are connecting to the names you specified it should work. Remember that name, names the area so that a link can know where to go. The href is the actual link. Don’t forget the # when placing the name of the page.

Background:

To add a background color simply place bgcolor in with the table command.

<table bgcolor=”#colorcode >
(for #color code place in the code of the color to be added)

To place an image as the background in a cell do

<table background=”imagename.jpg”>

Use bgcolor for colors and background for an image.

NOTE: if you place the color or image command in the main table tag it will create all rows (tr) will that background. If you want them to just be in one you must add it lower in the row (tr).

Border Color:

Border Light and Dark 

Border light and border dark help create the two colors for a border

Borderlight will be the top and left edge while borderdark will be the right edge and the bottom of the border. You will insert this just like the border color

Border colors can make tables more noticeable and sharp as well as fun!

Cell spacing: this will add more space around the cell

Cell padding: this will add more space inside each cell

We can use the table from the previous blog:

We will now add spacing inside the table tag by placing cellspacing=”15″ inside the table tag

<table border=”3″ cellspacing=”15″>

Cellpadding will work the same way but have a different effect.

<table border=”3″ cellpadding=”15″>

Both can be used together as well.

• To create a table start the tag table <table>
• Next to start a table row place the tag for table row <tr>
• Next command is to tell the table what information will be in that row it is the table data. <td>.
• Once the data for that cell is placed you must close the table data tag or it will not close!! </td>
• If this is the end of the row then close the row </tr> and if the end of the table, close the table </table>

To add a border and assign a thickness insert this command in the table tag

<table border=”2”> The number will define how thick the border on the table will be.

NOTE: when closing a table </table> you do not need to have </table border=”2> the border command is within the table and it a command that stands independently to the table.

Adding more rows:

Here is an example for adding more rows with commands from above

That is a table with two rows and two columns!

The target link needs to be included in the herf tag. It can be added after the url.
Ex. a href=”www.wordpress.com” TARGET=”_blank”
This means than wordpress will now open in a new blank internet window instead of linking on the previous page. This is very useful on business sites.

When using basic HTML using the name of the color will not always get you the correct color. Using the specific name also limits you in shades of that color. For example, in html to make a word blue it can be done with <font color=”blue”> this would cause the word after to become blue until the tag is ended. Another way to enter a specific shade of blue would be to enter the code for that shade. <font color=”#0000CC”> These numbers tell the broswer which shade of blue to code. Each color has its own number assigned to it. It seems impossible to remember the code for every single color. What I like to use is a html color code chart in which each of these colors can be viewed and obtain the code. Color charts can come in very useful. Click here to see a html color chart. This particular color chart is my favorite because it has the color organized by colors and shades and the colors are big enough to observe. The chart will limit us from the simple blue command to options like blue blue blue blue This allows us to specify the shade of blue we want. The web code contains a large list to chose from. These colors can also be used to insert background or fillers. These numbers are substituted where the word blue would go and the number code would go there instead. This is extremely useful to make sure web pages are color safe and eye appealing.

Align: this command tells the page where the image will be placed on the page. If the image will set on the left, center, right or any specific placing as to where the photo will sit.

Height: this command informs the page how big the image will be vertically. The number for commanding the image will be set in pixels.

Src:  this command will typically follow the img command and tells the brower which image file to display. The brower will then search after this for the location where the image is specified.

Width: this command informs the page how big the image will be horizontally. This number will also be set in pixels just like the height. Both width and height do not have to be specified at the same time

The IMG command can but does not have to contain all these tags. Placing the img tag simply informs the brower to insert an image. Adding each of these commands enhances details of the image command to the brower and can be very, very useful.
